The USO World Headquarters proudly announces the Sept. 26 opening of Rocky Mountain USO at Fort Carson. Connected to the Fort Carson Welcome Center, the new center will serve the third largest concentration of troops in the U.S. Rocky Mountain USO is the 134th USO center.
“The USO is excited to serve the growing military community of Fort Carson," said USO President Sloan D. Gibson. "I thank our sponsors and the Rocky Mountain community for helping us open our doors as we provide a home away from home for America’s troops and their families."
With the addition of 10,000 troops from the 2nd Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division and the 4th Infantry Division’s heavy brigade combat team and Unit of Employment Headquarters, Fort Carson’s military population is expected to reach more than 75,000. The 5,280 square-foot center will offer a new cyber café with free e-mail and Internet access, an entertainment lounge with a large screen television, theater audio system and video gaming consoles, a library, a children's play area and an outdoor grilling and picnic area.
“I owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to my Program Manager, Mr. Phil Martinez, our many volunteers who truly evoke the spirit of volunteerism and the many donors, sponsors, and corporate partners who’s services, monetary and in-kind donations made this USO Center possible,” said Center Director, Joe Aldaz. “I am humbled, honored, and privileged to serve such an outstanding organization and I will continue to passionately serve our men and women in uniform and their families.”
The Rocky Mountain USO at Fort Carson center was made possible with the support of the Department of Defense and the generosity of TriWest Healthcare Alliance, The Home Depot, Lockheed Martin, Perspectiva, Gallery Furniture, the El Pomar Foundation, Monfort Family Foundation, Fort Carson MWR and the Rocky Mountain USO Advisory Council, along with donations from the general public.
